Honoring Our Roots

Jake Van Wingerden is a third-generation greenhouse grower and the Founder and President of SunMed Growers, a state-of-the-art cannabis cultivator and processor in Maryland. Jake’s grandfather, Aart, emigrated from the Netherlands in the 1940s and had 16 children, many of whom remained invested in the family business as ornamental greenhouse growers. Together, they’ve led the U.S. bedding plant industry for decades.
Jake launched SunMed Growers after winning one of Maryland’s original cannabis cultivation licenses in 2015. One of only a few cultivators in the state to grow its plants in full-spectrum sunlight, the company’s “Dutch-style” greenhouse relies on advanced cultivation technologies, long-established sustainable farming practices, and natural light to provide the ideal environment for healthy cannabis plants without the more intense energy and natural resource requirements of indoor grows.

EJ

EJ has been a valued member of the SunMed team for nearly five years. Beyond his driving duties, he also contributes to our social media, marketing and creative initiatives.

Cameron

Cameron is a Post-Harvest lead, where he runs the quarter-cup production line and handles the fresh-frozen harvest process. With five years of experience under his belt, he keeps everything running smoothly and ensures great products each time.

Justin

Justin serves as the Plant Care Lead in our cannabis Mother Room, ensuring each mother plant receives the attention and care it needs before propagation.

Landon

Landon has been the go-to operator of our new bagging machine—handling everything from eighths to ounces with precision. He also helps to keep our pre-roll machine humming along.

Rebecca

Rebecca is one of our talented Lab Associates. Most days, you’ll find her crafting vapes, whipping up baked goods, or giving our products a final quality seal.

Ryan

For the past six years, Ryan has been a dedicated track grower in the flower section, where he tends to plants with care and precision.

Jazzmin

Jazzmin is our Production Lead of Gummy Production, where she oversees everything from mixing ingredients and operating the Tanis machine to de-molding and sugaring.

Yatima

Yatima is our Trim Lead, where she handles everything from sorting buds by size and strain, distributing work across the team and logging every detail with precision.

Jacob

Proudly known as “the clone guy,” Jacob is a Propagation Specialist and is responsible for taking all production clones and caring for mother plants.
