3 Festive THC Recipes: Infused Treats for the Holidays
Mix up your holiday traditions with these delicious THC-infused treats. Whether you are trying to cut back on alcohol, or just looking for a way to relax this season, these recipes are sure to be a hit!
Important Dosage Notes
When making large-batch edibles, it can be challenging to dose each serving accurately. That’s why we recommend preparing small-batch, single-serving treats that are measured out in accurate proportions. This way, you can control the dosage per serving, and your guests can easily halve the portion if needed. As always, start low and go slow with dosing, since homemade edibles can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 4 hours to take effect and remember to check your strains potency level.
Making Cannabutter
Follow this step-by-step guide to make your own cannabutter:
-
Decarboxylate the cannabis: Bake 7 grams cannabis flower at 220°F to activate THC. Break the flower into small pieces and bake for 20-60 minutes depending on its quality. Check on it frequently to ensure even baking and to make sure it doesn't burn.
-
Infuse the butter: Break up your decarbed cannabis so it's the perfect consistency for rolling a joint. Then, simmer the decarbed cannabis with butter and water on low heat for about 4 hours, stirring regularly.
-
Strain: Use a cheesecloth to strain the mixture, then cool it.
-
Store: Use cannabutter immediately or refrigerate or freeze the cannabutter in an airtight container for future use.
An Important Note: this recipe uses 7g of decarbed cannabis per 8 oz. or 1 cup of butter and the following recipes will adhere to this ratio.
Making a Cannabis Tincture
Follow this step-by-step guide to make your own cannabis-infused tincture:
-
Decarboxylate the cannabis: Preheat your oven to 240°F. Break the cannabis flower into small pieces and spread it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. This process activates the THC and other cannabinoids.
-
Combine with alcohol: Place the decarboxylated cannabis in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.Pour the alcohol over the cannabis until it is fully submerged.Seal the jar tightly, then shake it gently.
-
Steep the mixture: Store the jar in a cool, dark place for 2-4 weeks, shaking it gently once a day to help the infusion process. The longer you let it steep, the stronger the tincture will be.If you need it faster, you can steep for just 48 hours, but the flavor and potency may be milder.
-
Strain and store: After steeping, strain the mixture into a clean glass jar or dropper bottle. Store your tincture in a dark glass bottle or jar in a cool, dark place. Properly stored, it can last for years.
Selecting Strains for Flavor and Effect
When baking with cannabis, the plant's flavor will most likely translate to your homemade creations. It’s important to pick cannabis strains that possess complimentary flavors to your dishes. As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to use fruity and sweet flavored strains for desserts and earthy and spicy strains for savory dishes.
Recommended strains for sweet recipes:
-
Cherry Pie OG: flavor is sweet and fruity with hints of tart cherry.
-
Ice Cream Cake: features a creamy flavor profile with sweet hints of vanilla and sugary dough.
Recommended strains for savory recipes:
-
GMO x Skywalker OG: spicy, herbal flavor with earthy undertones
-
Lemon Skunk: an unmistakable skunky, pungent aroma with zesty lemon undertones.
